I have been involved in food and farming since 2017, when I first learned to taste, enjoy, and appreciate quality food grown with nature, whilst volunteering through WWOOF in the Netherlands.
In winter 2018/19, I spent 6 months in Devon at Pipers Farm, learning from the experience of Peter and Henri Grieg, who radically changed their farming method 30 years ago to produce food that tasted excellent and was healthy for their family. I learned about how they had a vision, and began to take steps to work towards that vision in the world, creating positive change as they went.
I worked at SCOOP (The Sustainable Cooperative) in Jersey for 4 years, where I learned more about Jersey’s organic sector, and began to personally get to know local small-scale farmers.
In August 2021, after taking a step back from my role and being encouraged by SCOOP to become a supplier, I began planning for the following spring, using a family-owned field in St. Johns.
In 2022, I grew 30 varieties of crops with varying degrees of success, kept a flock of 60 hybrid laying hens, and learned some of the joys and challenges of farming.
Throughout this time, I have been learning from young and old, organic and conventional farmers, at home and abroad, about how to deliver healthy food to my local community using organic techniques on a small scale, profitably. I hope to continue on this wild adventure for many years, and I hope to see you along the way!
